McMahon was a member of the Australia women’s national field hockey team that were defeated by the Netherlands women’s national field hockey team in the final of the 2014 Women’s Hockey World Cup, a Gold Medal winner at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and member of the team that went to the 2016 Summer Olympics.

McMahon was a member of the Australia team that were defeated by the Netherlands in the final of the 2014 Women’s Hockey World Cup. She was a part of the gold medal winning squad at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. McMahon played as a midfielder in this tournament for the first time in her career. She also earned a silver medal in the 2014 Women’s Hockey Champions Trophy in Mendoza, Argentina. She was selected in Australia’s squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics.


In 2013, she was named the best player in the Australian Hockey League. In 2015, McMahon suffered a number of on-field injuries including a double fracture to her jaw, a ball to the head which required stitches and a stress fracture in her foot.


She made her debut for Australia in September 2012 against South Africa at the age of 20. She was co-captain at the 2013 Junior World Cup where Australia finished sixth.


In 2011, McMahon was a member of the Australian Hockey League team the Southern Suns that won the national championship.
